The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has funded and established a new dialysis unit at Al-Nahda University Hospital in N’Djamena, Chad, aiming to address the critical shortage of dialysis services in the country. The project was launched in coordination with the Chadian Medical Organisation and local health authorities and represents a significant enhancement to the nation’s healthcare infrastructure.

The dialysis unit was officially inaugurated by Chad’s Minister of Public Health and Prevention, Dr. Abdelmadjid Abdelrahim Mohamed, at a ceremony attended by Qatar’s ambassador to Chad, Talib bin Mohammed al-Mankhas, and Khaled Mohamed, president of the Chadian Red Cross. The event also included participation from members of Chad’s Senate and Parliament, health advisers to the president and prime minister, medical personnel, and representatives from various international and local organizations.

Chronic kidney failure patients in Chad have long faced limited access to dialysis treatment, often necessitating travel abroad, which imposed substantial financial and social burdens. The newly established unit aims to provide local access to vital kidney care, improving continuity of treatment and the quality of life for patients and their families.

Equipped with 10 modern dialysis machines, 10 specialized medical chairs, and an advanced integrated water treatment system, the unit incorporates the latest technology to ensure high standards of care. Notably, it introduces haemodiafiltration technology to Chad for the first time, marking a technological advancement in the country’s renal treatment options.

The project’s total cost is estimated at approximately $507,150.90. It reflects the commitment of QRCS and the Chadian government to strengthen healthcare delivery and develop sustainable medical services within Chad. By enhancing the capacity of Al-Nahda University Hospital to provide specialized dialysis treatment, this initiative addresses urgent patient needs and supports broader public health goals in the region.
