Qatar has reaffirmed its support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Sudan amid ongoing conflict in the country. Speaking at the 62nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva on June 16, Abdulrahman Sultan al-Marzouqi, second secretary at Qatar’s Permanent Mission to the UN Office in Geneva, emphasized the urgent need to prevent further fragmentation and instability in Sudan.
During an enhanced interactive dialogue focused on the oral update from the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan, Qatar expressed deep concern over the persistent violence and its severe humanitarian and human rights impacts. The conflict has led to significant casualties, displacement of millions, and extensive damage to infrastructure and essential public services, Al-Marzouqi highlighted.
Qatar condemned any external interference in Sudan’s internal affairs and stressed the importance of maintaining the country’s unity and preserving its national institutions. The statement underscored the necessity of accountability for violations committed throughout the conflict, calling for an end to the prevailing impunity.
Al-Marzouqi also urged all parties involved to comply with their obligations under international humanitarian and human rights law, particularly in protecting civilian populations. He called on the international community to ensure the safe, rapid, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to affected areas across Sudan.
Reaffirming its stance, Qatar appealed for the resumption of meaningful and inclusive political dialogue among Sudanese stakeholders. The goal, he said, should be to secure a political settlement that upholds Sudan’s unity, safeguards state institutions, and meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security, stability, and development.
