Qatar condemned Israel for ongoing violations related to its occupation of Palestinian territories, highlighting actions it described as breaches of international law. The statement was made by HE Dr. Hend Abdulrahman al-Muftah, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, during the 63rd session of the Human Rights Council on September 29, addressing the human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories.
Dr. al-Muftah criticized Israel for continuing settlement expansion, forcible displacement of Palestinians, and attacks on Syria and Lebanon, all of which she characterized as grave violations. She specifically condemned Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, noting the targeting of civilians and damage to infrastructure, which contribute to ongoing humanitarian suffering in Palestinian communities.
The diplomat also drew attention to incidents involving Israeli settlers and extremists entering the Al Aqsa Mosque compound, expressing concern over attempts to alter the historical, legal, and demographic status of occupied East Jerusalem. Qatar’s representative underscored that these actions undermine the region’s stability and the prospects for peace.
Dr. al-Muftah further criticized Israel’s refusal to implement the comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza, which was endorsed by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 earlier this year. She described this refusal as a deliberate challenge to international efforts aimed at securing a just and lasting peace in the region. According to her statement, Israel’s stance hinders the realization of a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The remarks reflect Qatar’s continued position supporting Palestinian statehood and calling for adherence to international norms and United Nations resolutions concerning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
