Qatar’s Minister of Sports and Youth, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani, paid a visit to Canadian midfielder Ismael Kone following an injury sustained during the Group B match between Qatar and Canada in the ongoing World Cup tournament. The injury occurred early in the second half of the match after a collision involving Qatar international Assim Madibo.
Sheikh Hamad, accompanied by Madibo, visited Kone to convey well wishes for a speedy recovery and to encourage his prompt return to the field. The visit took place shortly after the incident on the pitch and was intended as a gesture of support amid the competitive encounter.
Peter Augruso, president of the Canadian Soccer Association, welcomed the visit and praised it as a demonstration of sportsmanship at the highest level. Analysts noted that the interaction underscored positive relations between the two teams during the tournament, highlighting respect and goodwill despite the on-field competitiveness.
The display of solidarity between the host nation and Canada was widely regarded as a reflection of the spirit of fair play, reinforcing the values that the World Cup seeks to promote among participating nations.
