The Qatar-Sri Lanka Joint Committee on Labour convened its regular meeting in Doha on Monday, focusing on advancing cooperation in labour-related matters between the two countries. The session was co-chaired by HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour Sheikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman al-Thani and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment of Sri Lanka Arun Hemachandra.

During the meeting, both parties reviewed recent developments in bilateral labour relations, emphasizing enhanced collaboration in the regulation of worker recruitment. Discussions also centered on increasing the employment of qualified and trained workers to better align with the demands of Qatar’s labour market, consistent with the goals outlined in Qatar National Vision 2030.

Representatives from both sides expressed appreciation for the robust ties between Qatar and Sri Lanka in the labour sector. They highlighted the importance of maintaining regular sessions of the Joint Committee to reinforce the strategic partnership and deepen cooperation going forward. The meeting underscored a mutual commitment to fostering closer collaboration that supports the evolving needs of both countries in the realm of labour mobility and workforce development.
