Qatar and Syria have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in diplomatic studies and training, following a meeting between senior officials in Damascus on July 11. The agreement was formalized by Qatar’s Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh al-Khulaifi, and Syria’s Foreign Minister, Asaad al-Shaibani.

During their discussions, the two officials reviewed bilateral relations, focusing on expanding collaboration in political and economic sectors. They also addressed shared regional concerns and examined recent developments related to Syria’s chemical weapons commitments. Both parties acknowledged the ongoing partnership between Qatar and Syria in supporting Syria’s adherence to the obligations under the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) framework.

Dr. al-Khulaifi underscored Qatar’s support for Syria, highlighting Doha’s active role in regional and international efforts to foster the development and prosperity of the Syrian people. The meeting reflects a continuation of diplomatic engagement between the two countries amid broader efforts to strengthen ties and address mutual interests.

The MoU aims to facilitate capacity building through exchange programs, training sessions, and joint academic initiatives in diplomacy, which are expected to contribute to deeper institutional links between the foreign ministries of Qatar and Syria.

No additional details regarding the implementation timeline or specific joint activities under the MoU were disclosed. Both sides expressed a commitment to advancing their collaboration to meet the aspirations of their peoples and address ongoing challenges in the region.
