Tanzania’s Prime Minister Mwigulni Nchemba met with Qatar’s Minister of Transport, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed al-Thani, on Tuesday to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in the transportation sector. The meeting took place in Doha and included Tanzania’s ambassador to Qatar, Habibu Awesi Mohamed, as well as officials from Qatar’s transportation companies, including Ahmad Hassan al-Obaidly, CEO of Mowasalat (Karwa).

During the visit, the Tanzanian delegation toured key elements of Qatar’s public transit infrastructure, focusing on sustainable and modern transportation systems. They visited the Lusail Bus Depot, an advanced facility recognized by the World Guinness Records as the largest e-bus depot worldwide in terms of capacity. The delegation was briefed on the depot’s electric bus fleet operations, charging infrastructure, and the integration of smart technologies designed to enhance operational efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

Officials highlighted the role of these technologies in supporting Qatar’s environmental sustainability objectives and commitment to green public transportation solutions. The discussions also covered technical and operational expertise in managing electric bus systems, emphasizing best practices from a global perspective.

The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise between Qatar and Tanzania. Both sides aim to explore opportunities to leverage Qatar’s advancements in sustainable transit to benefit Tanzania’s transportation development. The Tanzanian leadership expressed interest in adopting innovative solutions that align with international standards for eco-friendly and efficient public transport.

This collaboration reflects a wider regional interest in sustainable infrastructure and advancing public transportation as a means to support environmental and urban development goals.
