Qatar has introduced a new investment platform, “Doha Investment,” designed to manage and expand the domestic portfolio of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) and support long-term economic growth. The announcement was made by HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, during his opening remarks at the Qatar Economic Forum – Powered by Bloomberg, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The platform builds on Qatar's three decades of development in infrastructure, institutions, and companies, aiming to leverage these achievements for the next phase of the country’s economic advancement. Doha Investment seeks to broaden private sector participation, positioning it as a primary driver of growth by supporting leading companies, assisting startups in scaling, deepening capital markets, and attracting international expertise and capital.
Over the next five years, Qatar plans to launch new infrastructure projects valued at approximately $38.5 billion, including initiatives structured as public-private partnerships, with initial tendering processes set to begin immediately. In addition, the real estate and hospitality sectors are expected to attract around $22.5 billion in private investment. Notable among these is the Simaisma Beach project, projected to secure roughly $5.8 billion in investment, with additional projects to be announced in the future. Collectively, these ventures represent an investment pipeline exceeding $60 billion.
Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that the platform’s success will be judged by its ability to build a more competitive, resilient, and diversified economy with a stronger private sector role. It aims to combine public infrastructure efforts with private capital and international know-how, seeking partners equipped with technological innovation and market access and committed to long-term collaboration.
Addressing current global uncertainties, the Prime Minister stated that while challenges exist, Qatar will not allow short-term disruptions to determine its long-term trajectory. He underscored Qatar's ongoing efforts to promote regional stability through diplomacy, viewing economic reform and investment as integral to resilience and growth.
Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the close relationship between diplomacy and economic stability, noting that diplomatic efforts create the conditions for trade, investment, and future planning. He further cautioned against cycles of escalation and retaliatory actions, stressing that sustainable security cannot be achieved through arrangements that leave any state permanently vulnerable.
