Qatar has reiterated its concerns over attempts by Israel to impose a new regional status quo, cautioning against unresolved tensions that could escalate conflicts in the Gulf and beyond. The warning comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts by Doha and its partners to mediate and restore dialogue among regional actors.

In comments following the recent visit of Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, to Iran, Dr. al-Ansari highlighted that this trip was part of a broader series of high-level contacts involving officials from Oman and Pakistan. These efforts aim to facilitate mediation to prevent further regional escalation and revive negotiation channels.

Qatar has consistently emphasized the risks of leaving the current crisis unresolved, particularly with regard to the critical Strait of Hormuz. Al-Ansari noted that treating any disruption of the Strait’s navigation as permanent could lead to dangerous consequences, potentially exacerbating instability across the Gulf region. He stressed that Doha continues its coordination with mediation partners to prioritize political solutions and urges all parties to exercise restraint.

The Qatari official pointed out that the ramifications of the ongoing tensions have extended well beyond the Gulf, impacting global supply chains in essential sectors such as pharmaceuticals and energy. Qatar intends to work towards a resolution that ensures the Strait’s reopening, reinforces regional security, and supports sustained development for the peoples of the area.

Highlighting the recent visit of State Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh al-Khulaifi to Libya, al-Ansari reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to aiding the Libyan people in achieving an inclusive and stable state. Qatar advocates for a Libyan-led political process, with the international community playing a supportive role to facilitate consensus rather than impose external solutions.
