Qatari referee Khamis al-Marri has been named as the support video assistant referee (support VAR) for the FIFA World Cup final scheduled for Sunday at New York New Jersey Stadium. Al-Marri will form part of the officiating team overseeing the match between Argentina and Spain, representing Qatar in one of football's most high-profile events.

He will work alongside German official Bastian Dankert, who has been appointed as the video assistant referee (VAR), and Colombian referee Nicolas Gallo, serving as assistant VAR. This lineup ensures a multinational team managing the match's video review system.

On the field, Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic will take charge of the World Cup final, marking the first time an official from Slovenia has been assigned to lead the tournament’s culminating match. Vincic, 46, brings considerable experience, having previously officiated the UEFA Champions League final as well as the UEFA EURO 2024 semi-final between France and Spain. He described the appointment as an "incredible honour" and said it represented a dream come true.

Vincic will be supported by fellow Slovenian assistants Tomaz Klančnik and Andraz Kovacic. The fourth official role has been assigned to Jordan’s Adham Makahdeh, with fellow Jordanian Mohammad Al-Kafaf designated as the reserve assistant referee.

FIFA indicated that these appointments were determined largely by the officials’ consistent performances throughout the tournament, rewarding referees who have demonstrated reliability and competence in prior matches. The final assignments reflect the governing body’s commitment to selecting a team capable of managing the event’s critical moments.
