Qatar’s under-18 national basketball team secured its place in the FIBA U18 Asian Championship following a strong performance in the Gulf qualifiers. The team clinched a 80–67 victory over Oman on Wednesday at Al Gharafa Sports Hall, marking their third consecutive win in the competition.

With this result, Qatar accumulated six points from three matches, guaranteeing one of the two qualification spots for the continental finals scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad, India, from August 13 to 23, 2026. Bahrain, which holds the same record, has also confirmed its qualification. The two teams are set to face off on Thursday in a final group match to determine the Gulf qualifiers’ champion.

Qatar’s campaign has been marked by consistent displays of strength, beginning with a closely contested 80–76 victory over Saudi Arabia in the opening round. That match featured several momentum shifts, but Qatar’s ability to maintain composure in the closing minutes proved decisive. In their second outing, Qatar dominated Kuwait with an 81–53 win.

The latest encounter against Oman saw Qatar recover from early deficits, overcoming a first-quarter 18–19 disadvantage and a third-quarter lag to ultimately triumph with a commanding 30–14 fourth quarter. Abdullah Yassin was instrumental for Qatar, contributing 38 points, while Adam Suleiman led Oman with 17 points.

In other matches during the fourth round of qualifiers, Saudi Arabia secured their first win by defeating Kuwait 75–46. Prior to this, Saudi Arabia had fallen to Bahrain (62–54) and Qatar (80–76). Kuwait has faced defeats against Oman (62–59), Bahrain (106–51), and Qatar (81–53) and remains without a victory in the tournament.

After four rounds, the standings show Qatar and Bahrain tied at the top with six points each, followed by Saudi Arabia and Oman with four points apiece. Kuwait occupies the last position, having lost all four of its matches.
