Qatar Charity (QC) took part in a panel discussion titled “From Survival to Opportunity: Advancing Refugee Resilience and Inclusion,” held to mark World Refugee Day. The event was hosted by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) at the Minaretein Building, Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) in Doha.
The session convened a diverse group of government officials, humanitarian and development experts, and representatives from private institutions to explore strategies for enhancing comprehensive responses to refugee challenges. Among the participants were Ahmed Mohsen, UNHCR Representative to Qatar; Aisha al-Jassim, head of the Disasters and Emergency Relief Section at QFFD; Abdulla al-Abdulla, executive director of Monitoring and Evaluation at Education Above All Foundation (EAA); and Aisha al-Kuwari, director of Humanitarian Operations at Qatar Charity. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Mustafa Elamin, programme director and professor of Islam and Global Affairs at HBKU’s College of Islamic Studies.
Participants emphasized the importance of shifting from immediate humanitarian aid toward sustainable approaches that foster education, livelihood opportunities, and social inclusion. These efforts aim to help refugees achieve greater self-reliance and improved economic prospects. Al-Kuwari focused on the challenges and potential in integrating humanitarian relief with development programs to boost resilience among refugee populations.
The panel highlighted the critical role of collaboration among humanitarian organizations, development agencies, governments, and the private sector in crafting inclusive solutions that benefit both refugees and host communities. Qatar Charity’s involvement in the event reflects its ongoing dedication to supporting displaced persons through integrated initiatives that combine emergency aid with development to promote sustainable and inclusive outcomes.
In a related move to strengthen support for vulnerable displaced groups, UNHCR and Qatar Charity recently signed two agreements valued at QR3,079,324 (approximately $844,808). These agreements will provide assistance to more than 15,000 people affected by displacement in Lebanon and across the Middle East and North Africa region.
Additionally, Qatar Charity has launched a humanitarian campaign named “Every Refugee Tent Holds a Story,” which aims to deliver both immediate relief and long-term support to vulnerable populations in multiple countries. Donations can be contributed via Qatar Charity’s website or mobile app, using the ‘Home Collector’ service, by contacting the charity’s call center, or through branches and collection points located in shopping malls.
