Qatar has secured qualification for the 2026 Tent Pegging World Cup finals, set to take place in Jordan in November, following a strong performance in the qualifying play-off tournament held in Oman. Over three days of competition, the Qatari team amassed 414.50 points, narrowly edging out Iraq by 1.50 points. Kuwait finished third in the closely contested event.
Qatar’s riders demonstrated consistent skill throughout the tournament, with Nasser al-Hajri capturing gold in the individual event on the final day, and fellow rider Ibrahim al-Hammadi taking silver. The team's overall success highlighted their competitive edge and technical expertise in a field that included some of the region’s strongest equestrian contingents.
Badr bin Mohammed al-Darwish, president of the Qatar Equestrian Federation and Modern Pentathlon (QEFMP), described the qualification as a historic milestone, reflecting the continuous growth of Qatar’s equestrian sports on both regional and international stages. He attributed this progress to recent accomplishments at the Asian Games, sustained leadership support, and the backing of the Qatar Olympic Committee under HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani.
Al-Darwish praised the riders’ determination and ability to perform under challenging conditions, emphasizing that their top ranking reaffirms the federation’s focus on rigorous training and rider development. He noted that preparations for the World Cup are intensifying as the team aims to represent Qatar with distinction and reinforce the nation’s rising profile in global sport.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Noah al-Thani, Secretary-General of the QEFMP, echoed these views, underscoring that the team’s direct qualification was the result of consistent technical work and strategic planning. He highlighted that the Qatari team demonstrated tactical discipline and mental resilience against formidable opponents such as Iraq and Kuwait, building on their third-place finish in an earlier qualifying stage that secured their spot in the play-off tournament.
Sheikh Ahmed emphasized the success of comprehensive training camps and competitive exposure in elevating both individual and team performances. He pointed to the depth of talent within Qatar’s ranks, including a capable reserve of riders prepared to compete under pressure, and stressed the federation’s commitment to providing optimal training environments, selecting well-matched horses, and ensuring effective logistical support.
Looking ahead, the QEFMP plans an intensive preparation program aimed at maintaining the physical and mental readiness of riders and horses. Qatar’s ambitions for the World Cup extend beyond participation; the team is poised to contend for top honors and enhance the country’s stature in the international tent pegging community.
The Tent Pegging World Cup finals will be held in Jordan from November 11 to 14.
