Around 65 alumni of Qatar Foundation (QF) from Britain and various parts of Europe convened in London for the QF UK Alumni Forum 2026, a gathering aimed at fostering connections, sharing experiences, and maintaining ties to Qatar and the Foundation. The event reflects QF’s ongoing efforts to engage its growing global alumni community across multiple continents.
One featured speaker, Dr. Ahmed ElGhamrawy, highlighted his career trajectory since graduating in 2010 from the Electrical Engineering program at Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ), a partner university of QF. Initially entering the oil and gas sector with GE Oil & Gas at Qatar’s Science and Technology Park, Dr. ElGhamrawy later transitioned into the health technology field in the UK. Currently serving as commercial director at Abtrace in London, he emphasized the importance of viewing academic training as a versatile skillset rather than a fixed career path. He credited his move into entrepreneurship—building and scaling digital health startups—for presenting challenges that traditional academia had not prepared him for, including product development, team leadership, and fundraising.
Another alumna, Hanna Moazam, in her 20s and working in London for a leading global data and artificial intelligence (AI) company, described her role in developing AI governance frameworks. She stressed the importance of open source innovation and responsible deployment of Large Language Models to ensure that AI benefits are accessible while protecting data privacy and trust.
Officials from Qatar Foundation also commented on the significance of the forum. Dr. Lolwa al-Naemi, director of Strategy and Partnership within QF’s Higher Education division, noted that QF alumni demonstrate significant impact through their innovation, entrepreneurship, and commitment to service both within Qatar and internationally. Meanwhile, Asmaa Alkuwari, alumni engagement manager at QF, pointed to the positive momentum engendered by the UK Alumni Chapter, established in 2025. She emphasized that such events reinforce the value of the QF experience beyond graduation, highlighting the potential for alumni networks to create new opportunities.
The UK Alumni Forum serves as an example of Qatar Foundation’s broader strategy to support its alumni community worldwide, enabling ongoing collaboration and connection with Qatar and its educational institutions.
