The Qatar Football Association (QFA) has confirmed the reappointment of HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani as its president, extending his term until the next elective General Assembly slated for 2027. The Ordinary General Assembly, held recently, also approved the appointment of HE Sheikh Dr. Tamim bin Mohammed Al Thani as vice president for the same period.

The meeting was attended by senior QFA officials, including Sheikh Hamad, Sheikh Dr. Tamim, members of the Executive Committee, the secretary general, representatives from member clubs, department directors, and heads and members of various committees.

Among the key decisions was the endorsement of amendments to the QFA’s statutes, reinforcing the leadership appointments for the next six years. The assembly also rejected the membership application submitted by Al Dafna Sports Club, thereby maintaining the current composition of member clubs within the association.

Ahead of the 2027 elective General Assembly, attendees voted to renew the QFA Elections Committee. The committee members include Abdullah Hamed Al Mulla, Dr. Ahmed Abdulrahman Al Emadi, Ali Salem Afifa, Dr. Mahmoud Ali Al Mahmoud, and Eid Ali Al Marikhi. A short film showcasing the federation’s recent activities was screened during the session.

The assembly approved several procedural and administrative matters in line with QFA statutes. The minutes of the previous General Assembly, held on June 2, 2025, were ratified, alongside the federation’s activity report detailing initiatives since that meeting. The audited financial statements for 2025 and the independent external auditor’s report were presented and approved, as was the budget for the 2026 fiscal year. Additionally, members appointed committees to review meeting minutes and oversee ballot counting.

In his closing remarks, Sheikh Hamad acknowledged the contributions of outgoing members Jassim bin Rashid Al Buainain and Mohammed Khalifa Al Suwaidi, emphasizing the importance of ongoing cooperation to advance football in Qatar. He highlighted the central role of football clubs in meeting the sport’s ambitions, underscoring the need to provide them with sustained support to foster continuous development.

Looking ahead, Sheikh Hamad called for greater focus on youth football, describing this segment as the foundation and future of the sport in Qatar. He stressed the need to nurture and support national talent, particularly Qatari coaches, advocating for increased opportunities for them to lead the technical aspects of clubs. Expressing confidence in Qatari football talent, Sheikh Hamad emphasized that collective effort remains essential for the country’s sporting progress and success.
