QNB Group marked the first anniversary of its Blue Pledge initiative by launching the inaugural Marine Life Awareness Month throughout August 2026. The campaign, designed to raise awareness of marine conservation and reduce plastic pollution, involved employees, families, and local communities in Qatar and across several international markets where the group operates.
The Blue Pledge was initially introduced in 2025 as part of QNB’s commitment to environmental sustainability. This year’s awareness month translated that commitment into a range of activities tailored to local contexts, including beach clean-ups, waste reduction efforts, environmental education, and employee engagement programs. The collective activities aimed to demonstrate how coordinated efforts can drive practical action and contribute to sustained environmental impact on global marine ecosystems.
In Qatar, Marine Life Awareness Month focused on mobilising QNB employees to reaffirm their dedication to environmentally responsible behaviours. Participants shared their experiences and personal contributions toward marine protection over the past year. These messages were disseminated via QNB’s social media channels to boost public understanding and encourage broader community involvement in sustainable practices. Senior QNB executives reiterated the group’s ongoing dedication to marine conservation, situating the Blue Pledge within the bank’s wider environmental, social, and governance (ESG) framework and its ambition to achieve net-zero emissions. The initiative also aligns with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
QNB’s regional entities complemented the campaign with locally relevant programs. In Tunisia, the anniversary was marked by an educational visit to the Salammôb’ Oceanographic Museum, where employees’ children learned about Tunisia’s marine biodiversity and the importance of preserving ocean ecosystems. QNB Indonesia’s ‘Berawal dari Kantor’ (Starting from the Office) initiative encouraged staff to adopt responsible waste management both at work and at home. The program included activities where employees and their children sorted waste, collected litter near the company’s head office, and repurposed discarded plastics into ocean-inspired art.
QNB Egypt hosted interactive workshops focused on waste reduction, recycling, and sustainable reuse. Staff developed personal pledges on a Blue Pledge Wall installation, illustrating how individual actions contribute to environmental change. The campaign was extended to the North Coast through public events featuring branded beach spaces, a display aircraft with the #QNBBLuePledge flag, and the distribution of environmentally friendly materials.
Employees in Türkiye, France, and Switzerland took part in the ‘Choose to Reuse’ campaign, receiving reusable water bottles made from recycled plastics. This effort sought to instill practical habits aimed at reducing single-use plastic consumption in the workplace.
As the Blue Pledge moves into its second year, QNB Group continues to emphasize expanding ecological awareness and fostering responsible behaviours among its employees and communities to help safeguard marine environments worldwide.
