Queens Park Rangers extended their unbeaten run with a 2-1 victory over Cardiff City on Wednesday, moving to second place in the Championship standings alongside league leaders Swansea City. Rumarn Burrell played a key role for QPR, scoring both goals in the London side’s first win of the new season.

Burrell, returning from a three-month injury absence last term, opened the scoring in the 36th minute when he capitalized on a rebound following a corner kick. His first shot on target proved decisive, giving QPR the lead heading into halftime. Early in the second half, Burrell doubled the advantage with a powerful run down the left flank before placing a precise right-footed shot into the far corner of the net.

Cardiff City responded in the 74th minute through Perry Ng, who struck with a well-executed effort to cut the deficit. Despite creating several chances, Cardiff was unable to find an equalizer and dropped their first points of the season.

QPR manager Julien Stephan expressed satisfaction with the team’s overall performance, highlighting the resilience shown by his players. “It’s a satisfying night but it’s the beginning of the season so, hopefully, not the last one,” Stephan said. “We have margins to improve but we created more than them.”

Cardiff manager Brian Barry-Murphy acknowledged his team’s slow start but remained optimistic about their prospects moving forward. “We weren’t at our best in the first half. There will be setbacks along the way,” he said.

The win keeps QPR unbeaten after their opening fixtures as they continue their pursuit of promotion, while Cardiff seek to regroup and improve their form in upcoming matches.
