The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has signed contracts with the 13th group of Palestinian doctors selected for specialised medical training in Qatar for the 2026-27 academic year. This initiative is part of the Amiri Medical Scholarships Programme, established in 2003, which aims to strengthen the Palestinian health sector by providing advanced postgraduate education and clinical training.
The programme is implemented jointly by QRCS, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), and an advisory committee. Acting QRCS Secretary-General Abdullah Sultan al-Qattan highlighted the programme’s long-standing role in supporting Palestinian healthcare. He noted that it was launched as a strategic initiative reflecting Qatar’s commitment to improving medical services in Palestine in a scientific and professional manner. The initiative was originally established under the guidance of the late Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.
For the current cycle, 10 Palestinian doctors from Gaza and the West Bank who met the eligibility criteria and successfully passed the placement examinations have been selected. Upon arrival in Doha, these doctors will undergo advanced training in key medical specialties including internal medicine, emergency medicine, and anaesthesia.
The aim of the scholarship programme is to address the shortage of qualified medical personnel in Palestinian healthcare facilities by offering specialised academic and clinical development. Graduates are expected to return to their roles in Palestinian hospitals and clinics, bringing enhanced skills that can contribute to improved patient care and healthcare services more broadly.
The Amiri Medical Scholarships Programme is part of Qatar’s broader support for the Palestinian population, focusing on long-term capacity building within the health sector. Since its inception, it has sought to cultivate medical expertise that directly benefits Palestinian communities by upgrading local health systems through professionally trained practitioners.
