The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has launched its Warm Winter Campaign for 2026-2027, a three-month humanitarian effort aimed at providing winter assistance to more than 57,000 vulnerable individuals across several countries. The campaign focuses on delivering essential winter supplies including clothing, mattresses, blankets, heaters, heating oil, and tarpaulins to communities facing harsh conditions in Palestine (Gaza and the West Bank), Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Lebanon, and Jordan.
Operating under the theme “Warmth and Serenity,” the initiative will be carried out through QRCS’s foreign offices in collaboration with local National Societies and relevant authorities. The organisation emphasized the urgency of support for displaced families who suffer from inadequate shelter and a lack of warm clothing during winter months.
Abdullah Sultan al-Qattan, Acting Secretary-General of QRCS, highlighted the stark contrast between families enduring harsh winter conditions without basic necessities and those receiving aid that allows them to endure the cold. He called on donors and residents of Qatar to contribute generously, reinforcing the role of charitable giving in alleviating the hardships faced by displaced and impoverished populations.
Al-Qattan also praised Qatar’s long history of humanitarian solidarity and the consistent effectiveness of QRCS’s campaigns over the past two decades. He described the current campaign as the start of a new phase in the organisation’s mission to assist those in need.
Mohamed Bader al-Sada, Assistant Secretary-General for Relief and International Development at QRCS, acknowledged the support of the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA), which has facilitated the campaign’s implementation. He explained that the selection of beneficiary countries was strategic, targeting regions where severe winter weather coincides with ongoing displacement crises to maximise the impact and ensure timely aid delivery.
The campaign underscores QRCS’s commitment to addressing the compounded vulnerability caused by conflict, displacement, and extreme weather, seeking to enhance the wellbeing of affected families during the challenging winter season.
