The Medical Affairs Division of the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has achieved Accreditation Canada’s Diamond Level certification following a comprehensive audit of the four Workers’ Health Centres it operates in partnership with Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH). This milestone builds on the division’s previous recognition at the Platinum Level in March 2023 and reflects its ongoing commitment to international clinical standards and operational excellence.

The three-year accreditation process assessed the organisation’s compliance with rigorous healthcare and administrative standards, verifying consistent implementation of policies, procedures, and patient engagement practices. According to QRCS Acting Secretary-General Abdullah Sultan Al Qatan, the Diamond Level accreditation underscores the division’s sustained pursuit of quality and operational discipline since QRCS’s establishment in 1978. He noted the organisation’s prominent role in Qatar’s humanitarian, social, and medical sectors, particularly in providing primary healthcare to expatriate workers, a demographic with diverse cultural and linguistic needs.

Dr. Mohamed Faouzi Al Abdiad, assistant chief medical officer of the Medical Affairs Division, outlined that the evaluation was based on nine key criteria grouped into organisational quality and safety, and service-level clinical standards. These included governance, leadership, infection prevention and control, medication management, service excellence, as well as primary healthcare, biomedical laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and dental services. Additionally, staff perceptions of patient safety culture were measured through the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s Survey on Patient Safety Culture, which formed part of the review.

Joanna Marie Alvaro, head of Quality Control at QRCS Medical Affairs, attributed the Diamond status achievement to strong leadership prioritising quality, collaborative teams, and technical expertise in delivering consistent, high-standard care. She emphasized the ongoing goal to maintain and elevate care standards across the Workers’ Health Centres.

The four centres—located in Al Hemailah (New Industrial Area), Mesaimeer, Fereej Abdul Aziz (Doha), and Zekreet (Dukhan)—provide over 20 clinical specialties, including emergency care and around-the-clock general clinics, pharmacy, laboratory, and radiology services. In 2025, these centres recorded nearly 1.46 million patient visits, with the first half of 2026 seeing over 823,000 patients served. Patient experience ratings average 90 percent, surpassing national benchmarks related to appointment accessibility, facility convenience, quality of care, and follow-up.

Further metrics indicate that 99 percent of patients receive comprehensive health check-ups and follow-up plans, while all dental patients are provided with full treatment plans and oral health education. The Medical Affairs Division is also accredited by MoPH as a certified continuing professional development (CPD) provider, delivering 208 training courses in 2025 with a feedback rate exceeding 98 percent.

This latest accreditation reinforces QRCS’s role as a leading healthcare provider for Qatar’s expatriate workforce, highlighting its capacity to manage high patient volumes while maintaining stringent quality and safety standards.
