The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has initiated a water supply project aimed at providing clean drinking water to displaced families living in camps and shelters in Gaza. The effort, part of the "Supporting Water Services in Gaza" program, involves daily deployment of water tankers to supply drinking water to approximately 80,000 families affected by ongoing humanitarian challenges under the blockade. The initial phase of this project has a budget of around $400,000, with tanker trucks delivering up to six million liters of potable water.

Dr. Akram Nassar, who leads the QRCS representation office in Gaza, stated that the project responds directly to the critical humanitarian needs in the region. The crisis in Gaza has created urgent demand for safe water access, particularly for families displaced or living in overcrowded shelter centres.

In addition to the current water tanker distribution, QRCS plans to expand its work through several other water and sanitation initiatives. These upcoming projects include providing clean drinking water through improved infrastructure, rehabilitating sewage networks at 25 shelter centres, and supplying 500 portable toilets. The society also aims to construct five water tanks equipped with latrines, washbasins, and taps.

Solar energy will play a significant role in the expansion, as QRCS intends to install high-quality solar panels to operate five water purification plants. The plans further include the rehabilitation of a local water well coupled with a solar-powered pump to enhance water access and sustainability. Collectively, these projects are expected to benefit about 108,000 people in total, with an estimated cost exceeding QR 12 million (approximately $3.3 million USD).

QRCS encourages donations to support its water and sanitation efforts through multiple channels, including its official website, mobile application, donor hotline, and collection agents stationed at malls and shopping centres. This initiative highlights continuing international humanitarian efforts aimed at mitigating water scarcity and sanitation challenges in Gaza amid prolonged crisis conditions.
