The Qatar Sports for All Federation (QSFA) is continuing to promote women’s participation in sports through its ongoing "sports for all oasis" programme, targeting women and girls across various age groups. The initiative operates under the Ministry of Sports and Youth and includes activities held at Ruqaya Preparatory School for Girls in the Umm Al Semem area from Sunday through Wednesday each week over a three-month period.
The programme offers a wide range of sports and fitness activities, including soccer, volleyball, badminton, basketball, fitness workouts, walking, bodyweight strength training, and stretching and balance exercises. Sessions are conducted daily from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., creating an inclusive environment that brings together mothers and their daughters, as well as girls of different ages. The familial nature of the programme is a key aspect, emphasizing the role of sports in fostering community and family bonds.
Professional female trainers lead the sessions, with the support of an exclusively female administrative and technical team, ensuring that the environment respects participants’ privacy and cultural considerations. This emphasis on a secure and comfortable space reflects the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s priority to increase women’s engagement in physical activities within socially supportive settings.
In addition to activities at Ruqaya Preparatory School, the federation also hosts ladies’ sports evenings at Oxygen Park in Education City. These sessions welcome mothers and girls aged 12 and older and feature a mix of fitness and stretching exercises, soccer, netball, and volleyball. The venue includes a dedicated recreational area for children, designed to provide a safe and comfortable environment for mothers participating in the activities. The most recent event at Oxygen Park attracted 319 women and girls.
Abdullah al-Dosari, QSFA Executive Director, highlighted the strong turnout and participation across different age groups, praising mothers for accompanying their daughters to the programme. He noted that this aspect strengthens the programme’s familial character and aligns with QSFA’s broader goal of making sports an integral part of everyday life for women and families in Qatar.
Overall, the sports for all oasis initiative represents a significant effort by the QSFA and the Ministry of Sports and Youth to encourage physical activity among women and girls, prioritizing privacy, safety, and professional supervision to enhance participation and promote healthier lifestyles.
