Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) has launched an initiative aimed at linking technology startups with local restaurants to address operational challenges amid mounting geopolitical pressures, a senior official said. The effort is part of talatab grow, a programme introduced in Qatar to support homegrown restaurants by combining business assistance with innovation.

Marwan Habbal, business engagement lead at QSTP, explained that the organisation intends to act as a technology innovation partner by facilitating closer collaboration between its startup community and restaurant operators. Through this partnership, startups can better understand the specific difficulties faced by restaurants and develop practical solutions tailored to those needs.

Habbal emphasized the importance of local restaurants to Qatar’s economy, while noting that this sector is increasingly under strain. Geopolitical factors were cited as contributing to the pressures restaurants encounter, intensifying the need for improved operational efficiency and stronger supply-chain management.

“Technology and innovation could help restaurants respond by improving operational processes, streamlining logistics, and strengthening supply-chain management,” Habbal said. He added that addressing these areas is crucial for restaurant operators seeking to optimise business management and enhance customer service.

The collaboration offers startups the opportunity to engage directly with Qatar’s food and hospitality sector, enabling them to test and refine their technologies based on real-world business challenges rather than theoretical development. Meanwhile, talatab grow continues to provide business development support to participating restaurants, creating a complementary approach focused on both innovation and practical assistance.

By bridging Qatar’s technology ecosystem with the needs of local businesses, QSTP aims to foster the transformation of technological expertise into actionable solutions. This initiative reflects a broader strategy to enhance operational resilience and efficiency within the restaurant industry, helping it better navigate an increasingly complex economic landscape.

Through combining the resources and insights of the startup community with the operational knowledge of restaurant owners, the programme seeks to create sustainable innovations that improve business performance and support growth under challenging conditions.
