Qatar University (QU) recently concluded the fourth edition of its Innovators in Education project with a ceremony celebrating outstanding educational initiatives developed by university students and educators. The event highlighted creative projects designed to advance teaching and learning beyond traditional methods, particularly focusing on innovations in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The closing ceremony marked the culmination of months of work, research, and experimentation by participants who presented a range of digital and non-digital educational solutions aimed at meeting learners’ needs. Attendees, including university officials and education specialists, toured an exhibition showcasing the finalist projects. Many of these integrated modern technology with scientific and engineering principles, featuring interactive educational tools intended to facilitate students’ understanding of complex STEM concepts.
Dr. Omar al-Ansari, president of Qatar University, emphasized the project’s role in fulfilling the university’s national mission to support the development of Qatar’s education system. He noted the importance of fostering a culture of innovation and creativity among students and educators, describing the project as a key pillar in building the knowledge-based society envisioned by the State of Qatar. “We are pleased to witness the growth and expanding impact of this project in supporting educational quality and preparing future generations to face upcoming challenges,” he said.
Prof. Ibrahim al-Kaabi, executive vice president for Academic Affairs, underscored the significance of academic platforms that nurture creativity and transform innovative ideas into scalable educational applications. He praised the participants’ competence and excellence, highlighting how their initiatives demonstrate promising potential to shape the future of education through effective use of science and technology.
Dr. Nasser al-Dosari, dean of the College of Education at QU, said the project reflects the university’s vision of building national capacity and fostering a stimulating environment for creativity and innovation in education. Dr. Huda Salem al-Kubaisi, director of the National Centre for Educational Development, described the initiative as a valuable interactive platform for exchanging expertise and designing digital tools and smart applications aimed at directly addressing educational challenges.
The project is organized through a collaboration between QU’s College of Education, represented by the National Centre for Educational Development, the College of Engineering, and the College of Business and Economics, with sponsorship from ExxonMobil Qatar. Noora Musa, Community Relations and Communications manager at ExxonMobil Qatar, highlighted the alignment of the initiative with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy. She noted that the project supports the development of future talent while encouraging innovation, collaboration, and educational excellence, congratulating the year’s participants on their achievements.
Overall, the Innovators in Education project seeks to promote an educational environment that encourages creativity and sustainable learning by enabling educators and students to develop innovative tools that simplify and integrate STEM concepts and their practical applications.
