Qatar University recently held its annual orientation event, “Ya Hala 2026,” designed to welcome and integrate new faculty members into the university’s academic community. Organised by the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning under the Office of the Associate Vice-President for Teaching and Learning, the event introduced new faculty to the university’s academic environment, systems, services, and opportunities related to teaching, learning, and scientific research.

The orientation aims to facilitate the transition of new faculty members as they begin their roles, fostering engagement with university leadership as well as academic and administrative departments. Representatives from various sectors, including Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Research and Graduate Studies, Medical and Health Sciences, and Digital Learning and Online Education, participated to provide a comprehensive overview and support network for newcomers.

Dr. Abdulaziz al-Mannai, acting associate vice president for Teaching and Learning, emphasized that the event plays a crucial role in strengthening communication and interaction between new faculty, university officials, and staff. He noted that such engagement is vital for helping new academics adapt to the university environment and encourages their active contribution to advancing Qatar University’s mission and objectives.

Professor Tamer Khattab, director of the Excellence in Teaching and Learning Centre, highlighted the importance of collaboration among faculty members to enhance the effectiveness of education. He pointed to the value of integrating contemporary knowledge, practical applications, and active engagement in the teaching process. Prof. Khattab also underscored the unique contributions of new faculty members, who bring fresh perspectives shaped by their experiences at leading international institutions. This exchange of ideas, he said, supports continuous development in education while respecting Qatar University’s established academic culture.

The “Ya Hala” orientation reinforces an institutional culture grounded in communication, collaboration, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. It aligns with Qatar University’s broader role in fostering national human development and academic advancement.
