The father of 16-year-old Irene Sofiya expressed relief following a visit from Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, who pledged to support efforts to seek justice for his daughter. The meeting took place on Monday at the family’s home in Kampung Selamat, Batu Pahat.

Mohd Khairool Faisal Khyar, 42, an engineer and Irene’s father, said he appreciated the Queen’s compassion and encouragement during this challenging time. He emphasized that his primary focus now is obtaining justice for his only child, who died under tragic circumstances last weekend.

“Raja Zarith Sofiah was very considerate,” Mohd Khairool said, describing how the Queen advised the family to remain patient and assured them she would assist in the pursuit of justice. Although he received his daughter's post-mortem report, he chose not to disclose specific details.

Mohd Khairool also thanked the public for their support and expressed hope that measures would be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. He called on the Education Ministry to prioritize school safety to ensure parents feel secure sending their children to school.

Accompanying Raja Zarith Sofiah during the visit was Che’ Puan Mahkota Khaleeda Johor, wife of Johor Regent Tunku Ismail. The gathering began with prayers led by Batu Pahat Kadi Mohd Fauzi Bachok. The Queen also presented a personal contribution to help alleviate some of the family’s burdens. The visit was emotionally charged, with both Raja Zarith Sofiah and Che’ Puan Mahkota Khaleeda visibly moved.

The visit was attended by other officials, including Ayer Hitam Member of Parliament and Malaysian Chinese Association president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, as well as Yong Peng assemblyman and Johor state executive councillor Ling Tian Soon.

Meanwhile, the secondary school where Irene was found deceased maintained its regular schedule on Monday. According to an unnamed parent, students were kept at school slightly longer for an emergency assembly, though the contents of the meeting were not clear.

Irene Sofiya was pronounced dead on Saturday in the school hall after sustaining multiple injuries to her head and body, according to Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad. Authorities have detained a 16-year-old male student and secured a six-day remand order to assist in the investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which pertains to murder.
