A Yorkshire terrier was stolen from the front yard of a Queens residence in an incident that has left the owner distraught. The dog, named Chanel, was taken on the evening of September 17 from a home in the College Point neighborhood, authorities said.

The owner, Claudia Jaramillo Lopez, 47, told authorities that she briefly looked away from Chanel, who is 10 years old, for approximately two minutes around 6 p.m. While she was momentarily distracted, two individuals approached her property near the intersection of 130th Street and 14th Avenue. According to Lopez, the suspects initially attempted to coax Chanel into their vehicle, a Subaru Forester, which was double-parked nearby. However, the dog resisted being taken.

The suspects then forcibly grabbed the small gray and tan terrier from the yard and carried her into the vehicle despite her efforts to escape. Lopez said she returned to the scene with her other Yorkshire terrier, Leti, but by that time, Chanel was already gone.

Law enforcement agencies are investigating the incident, though no arrests have been reported. The theft highlights ongoing concerns among pet owners about the security of animals left unattended, even for brief periods.

Chanel’s family described her as “loving and flirty,” underscoring the emotional impact of the loss. Authorities have not released any additional details about the suspects or possible motives. The investigation remains active as the community hopes for the safe return of the stolen dog.
