A confrontation aboard a Queens subway train on Wednesday evening ended in a fatal stabbing, authorities said. The incident took place around 5:20 p.m. on a southbound J train as it neared the Woodhaven Boulevard station during the evening rush.

Police and law enforcement sources reported that the altercation escalated when a man drew a sharp weapon and stabbed a 59-year-old passenger. After the stabbing, the suspect exited the train at the Woodhaven stop and fled the platform.

Surveillance footage captured a man wearing all black—a black sweatshirt, sweatpants, shoes, and a balaclava—running across the street following the incident. Bystanders immediately pointed toward the individual, prompting several men nearby to pursue him.

Responding officers quickly detained a person of interest in the area, but it was not immediately confirmed whether the individual in the video is the same suspect apprehended by police.

Emergency medical services transported the victim to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities have withheld the victim’s identity pending notification of family members.

Investigators continue to examine the circumstances leading to the deadly confrontation and the motive behind the stabbing. No additional details regarding charges or potential witnesses were made available at the time.
