Carlos Queiroz has stepped down as head coach of Ghana’s national football team following their elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Black Stars were ousted in the round of 32 after a 1-0 loss to Colombia, ending their tournament run. Ghana had advanced from Group L, notably holding England to a goalless draw in the group stage.
Queiroz, 73, took charge of the team just three months prior to the tournament. The Portuguese coach, who previously served as an assistant at Manchester United, expressed his gratitude upon leaving the role. Speaking to FIFA’s official channels, Queiroz described his tenure with Ghana as an “honour and privilege” and thanked his players and staff for their dedication and commitment.
Despite the brief duration of his leadership, Queiroz’s impact on the team was noted for galvanizing the squad through the competitive group stage. However, the defeat to Colombia in the knockout round brought an early end to Ghana’s World Cup ambitions.
The Ghana Football Association has yet to announce a successor as it begins the search for a new head coach ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
