The Australian Football League (AFL) has imposed a fine of A$140,000 (£74,085) on the Geelong Cats for failing to notify the league about a contractual variation involving concussion-related legal rights. Two years ago, Geelong secured an agreement with player Jake Kolodjashnij that included an “informed consent letter” acknowledging the risks associated with playing at the elite level of Australian rules football. Kolodjashnij, a championship-winning athlete, had experienced multiple concussions during his career but was subsequently cleared to play by an AFL medical panel. He then signed a contract extension lasting through the 2026 season.

In a separate development in rugby union, Harlequins have announced the signing of Zimbabwean winger Edward Sigauke ahead of the 2026-27 Premiership season. At 22 years old, Sigauke has made a notable impact on the international stage with eight tries in 12 appearances for Zimbabwe. Prior to joining Harlequins, he played rugby in South Africa for Varsity College.

Harlequins head coach Jason Gilmore expressed confidence in Sigauke’s potential, highlighting the player’s speed and agility as key assets. “Eddie’s got tremendous speed and footwork that makes him a real handful for any defence,” Gilmore said. “We believe he’s got all the raw tools to become a weapon for us out wide.”

Responding to the move, Sigauke described the signing as an important step in his career. “This is a new chapter for me, and I want to make the most of it,” he said.
