Kirk Cousins threw two touchdown passes to Cody White as the Las Vegas Raiders defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 26-14 on Sunday, ending a four-game losing streak against their AFC West rivals. The game, held at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., marked Las Vegas’ first victory over Los Angeles on the road since 2020, a year when fans were absent due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cousins completed 19 of 29 passes for 253 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception while being sacked twice. White, who was elevated from the practice squad just a day before the game, had two touchdown receptions, including a go-ahead 13-yard catch in the third quarter and an 11-yard score late in the fourth quarter following a pivotal turnover.

The Raiders led 17-14 after a go-ahead touchdown by White before a critical defensive play by linebacker Jeremy Chinn helped seal the win. With 3:52 remaining, Chinn recovered a Chargers fumble by Omarion Hampton and returned it 43 yards to the Los Angeles 16-yard line. On the ensuing three-play, 43-second drive, Cousins found White for the touchdown that extended the Raiders’ lead to 24-14.

Las Vegas opened the scoring on a 40-yard touchdown reception by Tre Tucker in the second quarter, capitalizing on a coverage mistake by rookie Genesis Smith, who was filling in for the injured Elijah Molden. The Raiders also added a career-long 59-yard field goal from Matt Gay before halftime to lead 10-7.

The Chargers, who were favored to win, suffered their second consecutive 26-14 loss after falling to Arizona the previous week. Justin Herbert completed 15 of 26 passes for 192 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, also taking three sacks. Herbert connected on a 10-yard touchdown pass to Oronde Gadsden that gave the Chargers a brief lead at 14-10 in the second quarter. However, turnover problems and penalties hampered Los Angeles, including a costly false start and offensive holding call that contributed to a Raiders safety late in the game.

The Chargers struggled early when their opening drive ended with Cameron Dicker’s 58-yard field goal attempt striking the crossbar; Dicker had previously converted 59 of 63 home attempts.

Sunday’s loss also marked a milestone for Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh, who fell to 0-2 in his 100th NFL game, a first in his coaching career at both the college and professional levels.
