A Network Rail contractor is under investigation after sharing details on social media about the easiest London stations to evade fare payments. The 26-year-old, identified online as LB or @itsdatguyfromends, posted videos on TikTok describing security measures at various stations and offering tips on how to avoid detection while travelling without a ticket.
In his videos, the man wore a jacket displaying a Network Rail badge and spoke openly about his knowledge of security procedures, claiming to have passed through 538 stations without penalty. He provided a rating system for stations, ranging from “Free FL”—a play on Transport for London’s abbreviation TfL, indicating the easiest places to dodge fares—to warnings such as “just pay for your ticket lil bro” for stations where fare evasion was more difficult.
According to LB, confidence is key when attempting to bypass ticket barriers, advising fare dodgers to push through gates without hesitation and to avoid making eye contact with or being intimidated by security personnel. He highlighted stations like East Croydon as heavily patrolled by British Transport Police, while labeling Liverpool Street a “no-go zone” due to strict enforcement. Conversely, he described stations such as Waterloo East as easier targets for fare evasion, stating “no one cares,” and noted that Stratford is the common starting point for those learning to evade fares.
Following the publication of these videos, TikTok removed the account’s content after being alerted. Network Rail stated that the individual is not an employee of their organization and confirmed that the situation is currently under review. The contractor’s employer is expected to decide on any disciplinary measures.
Transport for London (TfL) emphasized that fare evasion constitutes a criminal offence, stressing that it undermines funding and investment in maintaining safe, clean, and reliable public transport services.
The incident has raised concerns about the vulnerability of fare enforcement on London’s rail network and the potential implications of insider knowledge being used to facilitate illegal travel.
