Two men have been sentenced following a series of thefts involving a stolen vehicle and a haul of malt whisky from a Dundee shop. Gary Hay and Peter Winks were convicted after they used a stolen Ford Transit van to ram the entrance of a Co-op store, enabling them to steal bottles of whisky valued at approximately £600.

The incident, recorded by CCTV cameras, showed the men driving the vehicle into the store’s doors, causing significant damage that forced the entrance to cave in. After crashing through, Hay was seen carrying multiple whisky bottles while Winks attempted to assist. The stolen whisky brands included Glen Scotia, Timorous Beastie, Creagdhu, and Old Pulteney. Following the break-in, the pair quickly fled the scene.

Both men later admitted to the theft of the whisky and the van, the latter valued at £68,000. At Dundee Sheriff Court, Hay received a custodial sentence of 34 months, while Winks was sentenced to 33 and a half months. The Crown Office released the footage as part of the public record accompanying the convictions.
