AC Milan secured a 2-0 victory over Venezia in their first home Serie A match of the season at the San Siro on Friday, with new signing Goncalo Ramos scoring his debut league goal. The Portuguese forward, who was acquired from Paris Saint-Germain for 74 million euros ($86 million), opened the scoring in the 69th minute with a powerful shot from a tight angle.

Ramos had a chance early in the match but was unable to capitalize, prompting praise for his continued impact after joining AC Milan ahead of the season. “The most important thing isn’t my goal, it’s the win,” Ramos said following the game. “I should have scored more than one goal tonight.” He added that he was already feeling at home with the team, noting the developing team spirit and mentality under the new coach.

The match held additional significance as it was the club’s first home game following the passing of former captain Franco Baresi, with tributes paid in his honor before kickoff. AC Milan began the Serie A campaign with a 2-1 away win against Torino last weekend.

The decisive second goal came late in the match when substitute Ardon Jashari fired a shot from the edge of the box in the 89th minute. The ball deflected off Venezia goalkeeper and struck defender Redouane Halhal’s knee, resulting in an own goal that sealed the win for Milan.

Under the management of Ruben Amorim, formerly of Manchester United, AC Milan is undergoing a rebuilding phase after narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification last season. The team’s solid start aims to build momentum as the domestic campaign continues.

Elsewhere in Serie A this weekend, Juventus will host Parma on Saturday. Italy’s Champions League contenders are also in action, with Napoli facing Como on Sunday, Inter Milan traveling to Cagliari, and Roma visiting Lecce on Monday.
