A 20-year-old former college student pleaded guilty to the murder of his stepfather and the family dog in their Shirebrook, Derbyshire home last October, court officials confirmed. Logan Procter attacked 57-year-old Christopher Owen and the family’s Jack Russell with multiple knives, inflicting more than 70 stab wounds on the man and 15 on the dog.
During proceedings at Derby Crown Court, prosecutors revealed that Procter maintained several “kill lists” on his phone and possessed a collection of knives and samurai swords at the residence. The attack was described as motivated by a desire for thrill and to feel “unique,” according to the prosecuting barrister Maryam Syed KC.
Following the incident on October 22, Procter calmly contacted emergency services. In his 999 call, he detailed the attack, mentioning the dog’s distress and stating he “wanted to end so many lives” and had plans to extend the violence further.
Procter was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 20 years and 10 months. The court heard that his actions were premeditated, highlighting the presence of multiple weapons and the extensive injury inflicted during the fatal assault.
