Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua is listed as questionable for Monday night’s game against the New York Giants due to a hip injury that kept him out of practice Friday and Saturday. The injury is separate from a previous core muscle issue Nacua sustained during a joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys in August. Rams coach Sean McVay indicated that while Nacua had initially appeared to recover well during midweek practice, he experienced soreness that has limited his ability to perform at full speed.
Nacua, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, recorded five receptions for 74 yards in the Rams’ season-opening 27-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia. Last season, he set career highs with 129 receptions, 1,715 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns. His absence or limited status could impact the Rams’ offense as backup receiver Jordan Whittington is also doubtful with a quadriceps injury, leaving undersized receivers Xavier Smith and Tutu Atwell next in line to fill those roles.
Defensively, the Rams will be without safety Kamren Kinchens, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury. On a positive note for Los Angeles, three-time AP Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald is expected to make his season debut after ending his retirement last month following two years away from the game. McVay expressed full support for Donald, who is 35 years old.
The Giants face injury concerns of their own. Cornerback Deonte Banks, dealing with a calf issue, missed practice on Saturday and is listed as questionable. Inside linebacker Micah McFadden was limited in practice and is also considered questionable for Monday’s game.
The Rams (0-1) will host the Giants (1-0) at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, with both teams managing key injuries ahead of the matchup.
