Los Angeles Rams receivers Puka Nacua and defensive end Myles Garrett are expected to miss at least a week of practice as the team manages minor injuries. Both All-Pro players were absent from Monday’s practice, and head coach Sean McVay indicated they could also sit out Tuesday and Thursday sessions. The Rams will hold a joint practice with the New Orleans Saints on Thursday ahead of their preseason meeting Saturday at SoFi Stadium.
Nacua has been dealing with soreness in his psoas muscle, which developed during a joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys last week. Garrett, who did not participate in that session, has been managing intermittent knee swelling during his first season with the Rams. McVay emphasized a cautious approach, stating the team is taking recovery “a day at a time” and hopes to have both players back next week. Despite their limited practice participation, Garrett completed individual workouts on Monday, while Nacua engaged in conditioning and weight training.
In other NFL news, Tennessee Titans quarterback Mitchell Trubisky left practice recently to have his right biceps examined by a trainer after appearing to experience some discomfort during drills. Trubisky, who served as a backup to starter Cam Ward during Tennessee’s preseason opener against San Francisco, has completed two of three passes for 23 yards in that game.
The New York Giants hosted running back Najee Harris for a workout as the team considers signing him. Harris, 28, is recovering from a left Achilles tendon tear sustained last September while with the Los Angeles Chargers. Harris had a strong start to his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, rushing for over 1,000 yards in each of his first four NFL seasons. The Giants’ interest follows a groin injury to running back Dante Miller in their preseason opener against Minnesota. The team also recently signed quarterback Jake Haener and linebacker Chandler Martin, while releasing Miller as injured.
Meanwhile, receiver Malik Nabers increased his participation in 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 drills during Giants camp as he continues his recovery from a torn ACL in his right knee.
Elsewhere, former Baltimore Ravens linebacker O.J. Brigance, who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2007, has died at age 56. Brigance won a Super Bowl with Baltimore in 2001 and later became a senior adviser for player engagement with the team. Despite the progression of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, he remained active in the organization and helped establish the Brigance Brigade Foundation to support those affected by the condition.
In Washington, the Commanders have released kicker Jake Moody and signed linebacker Krys Barnes, sources said. The move ends a competition for the kicking job, which now appears to belong to undrafted rookie Drew Stevens. Moody, 26, went 10 for 11 on field goal attempts in six games last season across three teams.
Additionally, the Chicago Bears have signed veteran defensive end Marcus Davenport and defensive back Deantre Prince. Davenport, 29, spent the last two seasons with the Detroit Lions but was limited to 10 games due to injuries. He played the 2023 season with the Minnesota Vikings after beginning his career with the New Orleans Saints.
