Derby County head coach John Eustace expressed frustration following his team’s continued home winless streak in the Championship this season. Despite a determined performance in their latest match, Derby fell short, extending the difficult run for the Rams.
Eustace highlighted the squad’s effort against a strong opponent, noting that the team produced a marked improvement compared to their previous outing. “We asked for a reaction after Wednesday’s first 45 minutes and we certainly got that,” he said. He praised the players for their resilience and ability to limit their opponents' chances, while also creating scoring opportunities themselves.
However, Derby’s ongoing injury crisis continues to impact the team’s consistency. Eustace acknowledged the absence of six or seven regular starters, players he believes would strengthen the side if available. He emphasized that the injury situation has contributed to the challenges the club has faced this term. “We’re going through a difficult period but we come through it,” he remarked.
Despite the setbacks, the head coach urged patience and faith in the team’s process, saying that the effort shown so far could have resulted in more positive results. Yet, he remained candid about his responsibility for the current form. “It’s my job as head coach to win games, there’s no excuses, my head’s on the door and I understand we haven’t won enough games at the moment,” Eustace stated.
Derby County now confronts the task of overturning their home fortunes as the Championship campaign progresses, with the manager hoping for an easing of injuries and a return to winning ways in the coming fixtures.
