Wyatt Langford's three-run homer powered the Texas Rangers to a 4-3 victory over the San Diego Padres on Sunday afternoon, securing the series finale at Globe Life Field. The win marked the Rangers’ second triumph in six games and allowed them to claim two out of three contests in the series.

Langford, who finished 2-for-4, connected on a first-pitch changeup from Padres starter Lucas Giolito in the third inning, sending the ball an estimated 403 feet down the left field line to give Texas an early 3-0 lead. Josh Jung’s RBI single in the fourth inning broke a 3-3 tie and extended the Rangers’ advantage, ultimately serving as the game-winning run. Jung went 2-for-3 with the crucial hit, while Nicky Lopez contributed a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs scored, and Jake Burger added two hits in four at-bats.

Giolito, making his first start since opening the game, lasted seven innings but took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits, two walks, and striking out two. The Padres’ bullpen followed opener Wandy Peralta, who pitched a scoreless first inning. Nathan Eovaldi (7-7) earned the win for Texas, working six innings and yielding three runs on seven hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. Eovaldi’s start had been postponed a day due to left knee soreness.

San Diego rallied in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs to tie the game. Gavin Sheets hit an RBI single to bring home the Padres' first run, followed by a run-scoring single from Xander Bogaerts, who finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Sheets was later thrown out at home plate while attempting to add another run, a play highlighted by Langford's throw from center field. Sung-Mun Song delivered a two-out RBI double to even the score at 3-3 before Texas responded with Jung’s game-winning RBI single.

In the ninth inning, Jakob Junis secured his fifth save despite allowing singles to the first two batters he faced. He then retired the next three hitters to close the game.

San Diego made a roster move ahead of the game by activating infielder Miguel Andujar from the injured list and designating infielder/outfielder Nick Solak for assignment. Andujar appeared as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning and grounded into a double play to end the frame.

The Padres concluded a nine-game road trip where they managed to win only two games. The Rangers, meanwhile, improved their home record and looked to build momentum as the season progresses.
