Rangers manager Derek McInnes is intensifying efforts to strengthen the team’s attacking options on the wings following the recent £3 million signing of Japan international Daisuke Yokota from Hannover. The club is currently in negotiations with PSV Eindhoven over a potential transfer for Dutch winger Couhaib Driouech. PSV reportedly rejected an initial bid, valuing the player at around £6 million, but talks have resumed in the past 24 hours with Rangers eager to reach an agreement.
In addition to Driouech, Rangers have shown interest in Fares Ghedjemis of Frosinone. The Italian club has turned down an £8 million offer for Ghedjemis, with Scottish rivals Celtic also said to be pursuing the player. McInnes confirmed that discussions are ongoing with a number of wide players, indicating the club’s ambition to enhance their squad ahead of the new season.
“We’re looking at several wide players. Talks are ongoing. A few reports have been accurate and we’re keen to just bring in the best we can,” McInnes said. He also highlighted support from club owner Andrew Cavenagh, underscoring the ambition to secure quality additions. “We need to see how this all lands for us with several targets. If we get a bid accepted for any of the ones mentioned, and a couple that haven’t been mentioned, I’ll be delighted.”
Yokota’s arrival is seen as a key reinforcement on the flank, offering balance and versatility. Meanwhile, new signing Olwethu Makhanya has joined the squad traveling for Rangers’ Europa League qualifier against Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok. This is a timely boost considering defender Ben Godfrey’s current injury situation. Despite ongoing transfer speculation, midfielder Nico Raskin remains with the team and is expected to be available for selection.
McInnes stressed the challenge posed by Jagiellonia ahead of the qualifier, acknowledging the strength of the opposition. “It’s going to be a tough game. We’ve seen their qualities, and we need to respect them fully,” he said.
