Rapper Rick Ross, whose legal name is William Roberts II, was arrested in Miami Beach early Thursday on charges of battery following allegations made by a woman he was living with. According to authorities, the woman reported to police that Ross struck her, leading to his surrender at the Miami Beach Police Station two days after the complaint was filed.
Court records indicate that Ross faces a felony charge of battery by strangulation, along with a misdemeanor battery charge. The incident is reported to have occurred on August 28, when the woman told Miami Beach detectives that Ross accused her of infidelity and physically assaulted her multiple times.
Ross, 50, was released from custody later Thursday after posting a $5,000 cash bond. His arraignment is set for October 22.
In response to the charges, Ross’s attorney, Steve Sadow, issued a statement calling the allegations wrongful and attributing them to an ex-girlfriend whose motivations remain unclear. Sadow noted that the police report was filed a month after the alleged incident and emphasized that Ross has pled not guilty. The attorney urged the public to withhold judgment and allow the legal process to proceed.
The case remains under investigation as the scheduled arraignment approaches.
