The Toronto Raptors will retire Kyle Lowry’s No. 7 jersey in a ceremony scheduled for January 10, following the team’s home game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Lowry will become the second player in franchise history to have his number officially retired, joining Vince Carter.

Lowry, who retired in July at age 40, signed a symbolic one-day contract with the Raptors to formally conclude his 20-year NBA career with the team. He spent nine seasons in Toronto and was instrumental in leading the franchise to its only NBA championship in 2019.

In a statement, Lowry expressed his anticipation for the jersey retirement, describing Toronto as his home and highlighting the significance of the honour. “To see my No. 7 go up in that building is going to mean everything to me,” he said. Lowry also acknowledged the collective effort behind the championship, crediting his teammates, the organization, the city, fans, and all of Canada for their roles.

During his tenure with Toronto, Lowry emerged as a key figure in the franchise’s history. He is the team’s all-time leader in assists, steals, and three-point field goals, and was selected as an NBA All-Star six times.

The Raptors plan to commemorate Lowry’s career with additional events surrounding their January home games against Minnesota on the 7th and Utah on the 8th, further celebrating his contributions to the team and the city.
