Raul Fernandez of the SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team secured a victory in the sprint race at the Dutch Grand Prix in Assen on Saturday, moving from fourth on the grid to claim the lead and maintain it until the finish. Fernandez finished 0.362 seconds ahead of teammate Ai Ogura, delivering Trackhouse’s first-ever one-two finish in a MotoGP sprint race. This sprint was notably the first to take place under new regulations prohibiting front holeshot devices.
Fernandez, who had previously won a MotoGP sprint at Mugello in May, described the result as a significant achievement for both himself and the team. “I think we found that we are quite strong. It is an amazing result for me and for the team,” he said. He added that the circuit conditions suited him well, particularly in the closing stages, though he acknowledged that he was pushing to his limits and remained cautious about what to expect in Sunday’s main race.
Polesitter Fabio Di Giannantonio had an initially strong start but was overtaken early by Fernandez, Ogura, and his teammate Luca Bezzecchi. Di Giannantonio held third place after defending against Bezzecchi, while polesitter Marco Bezzecchi eventually fell back to fourth after his duel with his teammate Jorge Martin, who slipped to fifth.
Ogura expressed some disappointment with his early laps but remained positive about the team’s performance moving forward. “The race was really close. It was a shame that I lost a couple of spots in the first three laps. We know what we have to improve tomorrow,” he said.
Bezzecchi, who had missed the previous grand prix at Brno after retiring from the sprint and receiving a race ban for an incident involving a marshal, extended his championship lead by one point with his fourth-place finish. The Aprilia rider now leads teammate Martin by nine points in the overall standings.
Marc Marquez finished seventh on the track but was promoted to sixth after Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia was penalized for exceeding track limits at the final chicane in the closing moments. Bagnaia dropped to seventh as a result.
Alex Marquez of Gresini Racing, who had not participated in qualifying, started from the back and finished 13th. Meanwhile, Honda’s Joan Mir crashed out on the opening lap, ending his sprint race prematurely.
In the championship standings, Bezzecchi leads with a narrow margin. Di Giannantonio is now 22 points behind, followed by Marc Marquez, who trails by an additional 20 points. Ogura sits just one point behind Marquez with 143, ahead of Pedro Acosta with 133 and Bagnaia with 130 points.
