Rawan Al Hasani captured Oman’s first medal at the 2026 Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Wednesday, securing a bronze in the women’s T53 wheelchair 100 meters with a time of 22.49 seconds. This achievement marked Al Hasani’s debut at the continental event and placed Oman on the medal standings early in the competition.

In addition to Al Hasani’s podium finish, Mutasim al Saadi recorded a personal best in the men’s F53 shot put, finishing fourth with a throw of 6.04 meters. His improved performance highlights progress within Oman’s track and field contingent as the athletes continue to compete in Nagoya.

Other Omani athletes made notable contributions as well. Iman al Shamsi placed sixth in the women’s F34 shot put with a distance of 5.62 meters, while Qusai al Rawahi finished seventh in the men’s T13 long jump, reaching 5.36 meters.

Dr. Mansour bin Sultan al Tooqi, Chairman of the Oman Paralympic Committee, expressed pride in Al Hasani’s success, emphasizing its significance for female athletes in Oman and the country’s broader para-sport development. He noted that the medal was a promising indication of Al Hasani’s potential early in her career and highlighted the importance of consistent training, long-term preparation, and international experience to improve future performances.

Dr. al Tooqi also stated that the committee’s ongoing evaluation of Oman’s participation would consider both the technical results achieved and the factors influencing performance variations, with several athletes yet to complete their events.

For Al Hasani, the bronze medal serves as motivation to enhance her training and compete at higher levels. She described her experience at the Games as a valuable opportunity to gain insight into the competitive demands posed by leading Asian athletes and expressed determination to build on her initial success, aiming to represent Oman on future international stages.

The Omani delegation looks to build on its early success as remaining events, including the club throw and handcycling competitions, present further chances to add to the medal tally before the Games conclude on October 24. Al Saadi’s personal best alongside Al Hasani’s podium finish underscores the gradual strengthening of Oman’s para-athletics team in competition against Asia’s top athletes.
