PUTRAJAYA — Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain has expressed his readiness to accept any consequences following the leak of a video showing him reprimanding two unidentified men during an enforcement operation at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

The incident, which took place on September 28, involved a targeted action against a foreign tout syndicate suspected of attempting to smuggle drugs out of Malaysia. Comm Mohd Shuhaily and his team, accompanied by aviation security personnel, detained one of the suspects and brought him to a baggage inspection room for further investigation.

According to Comm Mohd Shuhaily, during the inspection two unknown individuals entered the room without authorization and began recording the proceedings. The officers intervened and instructed the men to delete the recordings. In the viral video, which appears to be a secondary recording and different from the original footage, Comm Mohd Shuhaily can be seen issuing a stern warning as part of his enforcement duties.

While he declined to identify the two men involved, police reports surfaced online, filed by two officers, revealing the complainants’ identities. The director-general said the leak of the video may be part of an effort to tarnish the reputation of the AKPS and himself. A police report has been lodged to investigate possible attempts to damage the agency’s image.

Comm Mohd Shuhaily acknowledged the public attention the incident has garnered and said he has informed senior government officials about the situation. “I will accept whatever decision comes. If I have to pay the price for this, then I will do so,” he stated during a press conference yesterday.

Regarding allegations of physical altercation shown briefly in the video, where he appeared to make contact with one of the men involved, Comm Mohd Shuhaily refrained from commenting, noting the matter should be left to investigators. He added he attended a funeral for Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali on the same day and asked the public to judge any claims of injury from the footage widely shared on social media.

The incident has sparked debate online, with some questioning the conduct of the enforcement officers and others defending the actions taken during the operation targeting illicit activities at the airport. The investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the confrontation remains ongoing.
