Real Madrid has denied any intention of pursuing a transfer for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez this summer, despite recent speculation linking the Spanish club with the Argentine international. Fernandez’s agent, Javier Pastore, had suggested on Thursday that Real Madrid were admirers of the 25-year-old, fueling rumors of a potential move. However, the club issued a statement dismissing these reports as inaccurate and unsubstantiated.

Enzo Fernandez joined Chelsea in February 2023 for a British record fee of £110 million. With the player still under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2032, Chelsea have indicated a valuation of around £120 million should a serious bid emerge. Despite the interest reported, Real Madrid clarified that no efforts, direct or indirect, have been made to pursue Fernandez and that the club currently has no plans to engage in such a transfer.

The statement emphasized the strong institutional relationship between Real Madrid and Chelsea, underscoring the Spanish club’s respect for both the player and the English side. It also expressed regret over the persistent circulation of misleading information, which Real said only serves to create confusion among fans and potentially harm the reputations of all parties involved.

Pastore had earlier described Fernandez as one of the best performers this year and acknowledged Real Madrid’s admiration for the midfielder, who reportedly holds an interest in joining the Spanish club. The player himself appeared to signal uncertainty about his Chelsea future last season, when he expressed ambivalence about whether he would remain at Stamford Bridge and voiced a desire to live in Madrid. Additionally, Fernandez seemed to bid farewell to Chelsea supporters after the conclusion of the previous campaign.

Chelsea, having failed to qualify for European competition this season, recently appointed former Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso as their new manager following the dismissal of Liam Rosenior in May. Alonso officially took charge on July 1 and has yet to meet with Fernandez. Meanwhile, Real Madrid has already secured the signing of Chelsea’s left-back Marc Cucurella for £51.8 million this summer.

The current transfer window has seen significant spending on midfielders, with clubs like Tottenham and Manchester City breaking records. Tottenham has committed £185 million toward acquisitions including Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali and West Ham’s Matheus Fernandes. Manchester City also set a new record for an English footballer by paying £116 million for Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson.

As the transfer window progresses, Chelsea maintain control over Fernandez’s future given his long-term contract, while Real Madrid continue to downplay rumors of a move despite ongoing speculation fueled by statements from the player’s agent and prior indications from Fernandez himself.
