Trainer Rebecca Menzies is weighing options for her horse Adonius at upcoming races in the UK and France before planning a campaign in the United States later this year. Following a successful early-season run, including a hat-trick highlighted by victory in the Lily Agnes Stakes at Chester in May, the son of Soldier’s Call is poised to contest further events ahead of a transatlantic journey.

After skipping Royal Ascot and other summer targets, Adonius returned to competition in the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood, where he finished second to Pershaada. Pershaada is set to compete against older horses in the Group One Nunthorpe Stakes, signaling a step up in class for that rival. Menzies indicated that Adonius’ next race might be the Roses Stakes, a Listed race held on Ebor day at York, or alternatively a Group Three event at ParisLongchamp.

Looking beyond these European targets, Menzies has plans to take Adonius to the United States for a fall campaign. Among the key aims is the prestigious Breeders’ Cup, one of the most significant events on the international racing calendar. Additionally, the horse is entered for a $350,000 race scheduled for October 4 at Keeneland, Kentucky. Menzies confirmed that she has begun the necessary administrative steps to facilitate Adonius’ trip overseas to compete in that event.

The connections’ approach reflects a balance between carefully choosing European races to maintain Adonius’ form and preparing the horse for high-profile competition across the Atlantic later this year.
