Lewis Hall is determined to use the disappointment of missing out on this summer’s World Cup as motivation for the current season. The Newcastle United left-back has responded to his omission with strong performances, earning a recall to the England squad under manager Thomas Tuchel.

Hall, who recently signed a new contract with Newcastle, has been in impressive form early in the campaign. His resurgence has positioned him as a serious contender to secure the national team’s left-back spot. Speaking ahead of an upcoming fixture, Hall acknowledged the setback but emphasized the importance of channeling frustration constructively rather than dwelling on it negatively.

“It’s important to use that,” Hall said about the World Cup disappointment. “You don’t want to get too worked up on it and too down about it, because that can also come across quite negative. So, I’m using that frustration – and everyone will be doing the same to try to get themselves back in the squad.”

He also highlighted the competitive nature of international football. “Whenever you’re in the squad, ultimately you’ve got the shirt, you’ve got to do what you can to keep it. When you’re not in the squad, you’ve got to do what you can to try to take it off other people. That’s what everyone describes as healthy competition, and that’s important to pushing the team and the nation forward. That gets the best out of players.”

Hall explained his current focus is firmly on maintaining his place in the squad and making the most of any opportunities that arise. With Nico O’Reilly listed as a doubt due to injury, Hall looks set to feature in an upcoming England match, presenting a chance to solidify his spot.

“That’s what football is about. It’s all about your chances. When I do get an opportunity, I’m hoping I can take it,” Hall said.

As Hall continues to impress with Newcastle, his form has clearly caught the attention of England’s coaching staff, potentially marking the beginning of a sustained run at the international level.
