Reckitt Benckiser, the consumer goods company known for brands such as Dettol, Durex, and Nurofen, has announced it will implement moderate price increases across most of its markets amid rising cost pressures linked to the conflict in Iran. The company’s chief executive, Kris Licht, cited increased expenses driven primarily by volatile oil prices as a key factor behind the decision.
The company reported a 4.2% increase in like-for-like sales of its core brands during the second quarter of 2026. However, despite the sales growth, Reckitt’s underlying operating profits declined by 14.3% to £1.47 billion for the six months ending June 30. The profit reduction reflects the broader impact of higher input costs and foreign exchange pressures.
Earlier this year, Reckitt had warned that sustained oil prices around $110 per barrel could cost the company approximately £150 million. Licht noted that while the threat from elevated oil prices has lessened somewhat since April, the overall effect remains significant but now considered manageable. In response to these challenges, the company plans to raise prices moderately to help offset costs.
In addition to the price adjustment announcement, Reckitt revealed plans for a new share buyback program valued at up to £500 million. This move is intended to return value to shareholders amid the uncertain economic environment.
The company’s strategy highlights the challenges faced by multinational consumer goods firms contending with geopolitical tensions and commodity price volatility. The Iran conflict has contributed to fluctuations in oil markets, which have ripple effects on global production and supply chains, influencing input costs for companies like Reckitt.
While the price increases are aimed at mitigating margin pressures, the extent of their impact on consumers and competitive dynamics in different regions remains to be seen. Reckitt’s approach illustrates how firms in the fast-moving consumer goods sector are balancing sales growth against rising operational expenses in a complex global landscape.
