Redcar Athletic extended their unbeaten streak to seven matches with a 3-2 victory over FC United on Saturday. The contest, held at Redcar’s home ground, featured late drama as Adam Boyes secured the win with a decisive header in the closing minutes.

The Steelmen took the lead in the 17th minute when Boyes capitalized on a rebound after goalkeeper Dan Atherton spilled a cross from Ciaran Banks. The initial cross from Luke Spalding was blocked for a corner, but the subsequent delivery by Banks created a scoring opportunity that Boyes converted.

FC United responded swiftly, equalizing six minutes later. Arran Pettifer pressured Redcar defender Josh Mazfari inside the box before slotting the ball into an open net, leveling the score at 1-1. The remainder of the first half saw chances from both sides, including a long-range effort from Redcar’s Jordan Buckley that sailed over the crossbar.

After the break, Pettifer had another attempt from distance, which went wide. The decisive breakthrough for Redcar came in the 75th minute following a sequence involving two substitutes. Nathan Guru’s shot forced a save from Atherton, who pushed the ball for a corner. From the resulting set piece, Curtis Round delivered a cross to the back post where Andre Ardelean headed the ball into the bottom corner, putting Redcar ahead 2-1.

FC United leveled again shortly thereafter. Former Premier League forward Adam Le Fondre converted a low cross inside the box, marking his impact on the game and restoring parity at 2-2.

The match’s outcome was ultimately settled in the 89th minute as Boyes rose to meet a cross from Oscar Fletcher with a header that found the back of the net, ensuring Redcar Athletic maintained their unbeaten run with a hard-fought 3-2 victory.
